Betty Gray-Henson, a distinguished mental health pioneer with a remarkable 35-year legacy of providing essential mental and behavioral health services to children and families. Born and raised in Portsmouth, Betty has been a steadfast resident of Norfolk for the past 27 years. She is an alumna of Norfolk State University, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, establishing a strong foundation for her impactful career.
As a master-level social worker, Betty has been a trailblazer in the field, introducing innovative "Home-Based" services to Hampton Roads. Her pioneering work aims to prevent out-of-home placements and reduce recidivism among children, emphasizing the pivotal role of families in child rearing. Betty firmly believes that families serve as the best vehicle to raise children, with parents as the guiding beacons, nurturing them into independent, resilient individuals.
Betty specializes in working with teenagers, a demographic she finds both resilient and challenging. Her expertise extends to helping individuals who have experienced trauma, sexual abuse, abandonment, and have faced legal encounters due to poor choices. She is Certified and holds certifications in Structural Family Therapy. With over fifteen years of experience in re-teaching individuals with sexually reactive/offensive behaviors, Betty brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and abilities to her role as a mental health therapist at Providence Psychological Services.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Betty finds joy in her family life. She has been happily married for 33 years and enjoys spending quality time with her husband, their adult sons, and their two handsome grandsons. When Betty isn't assisting others in their journey towards discovering their "Authentic Selves," she cherishes these precious moments with her loved ones.
