Betty Gray-Henson

MSW, ACSW

Betty is a seasoned mental health pioneer with over 35 years of providing mental and behavioral health services to children and families through Intensive In-Home Services. She was born and grew up in Portsmouth and has lived in Norfolk for 27 years. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Norfolk State University. As a master level social worker, she was the first person to bring “Home-Based” services to Hampton Roads to prevent out of home placements and reduce recidivism of children. Betty believes that “family” is the best vehicle to raise children and parents are the guiding beacon to train and nurture them to become the independent human beings they aspire to be. She does her best work with teens who tend to be the most resilient and challenging. Betty enjoys working with those who have experienced trauma, sexual abuse, abandonment and who have made poor choices which have led to legal encounters. She is Gang Certified and also certified in Structural Family Therapy with over fifteen years of re-teaching those with sexually reactive/offensive behaviors. She brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and abilities to the team at Providence Psychological Services as a mental health therapist. When she is not assisting others in finding their “Authentic Selves” she enjoys spending time with her husband of 32 years, their adult sons, and their handsome grandson.
